Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 9: Issues 31-34 Review – Introduction

Pushing into October now, we’re in the home stretch of 2023 and are closing in on the halfway point of the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer collection. Unfortunately, this month’s delivery for subscribers has been delayed, so many people won’t have received their magazines and miniatures when they were expecting to. We also fell foul of this!

It’s a shame too, as this month is a really good ‘un – particularly for Premium Subscribers. Read on for more!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 9: Issues 31-34 Review – Contents

Without further ado, let’s dive into this month’s offerings.

The Magazines

This month’s crop of magazines are filled to the brim with the usual selection of all things Age of Sigmar.

Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Deliver 9 Issues 31-34 Magazines

Issue 31 introduces readers to recent range-refresh recipient, the Seraphon, before swinging back round to the Dawnbringer Crusades and other things Stormcast. Things get much darker in Issue 32 with the focus on the Gloomspite Gitz and Chaos – which carries into Issue 33, with more focus on the Ruinous Powers. Issue 34 has ba few sides on Nagash and Grand Alliance Death.

Of course, throughout the magazines there are new rules, new missions, and new battleplans for you to be cutting your competitive teeth on. There are also painting guides so you can be getting your miniatures up-to-date if you’re following along with the steps in these issues.

Miniatures

Even without a Premium Kit, Delivery 9 is heavily with miniatures.

First up, we have five Vigilors. Once they’re together, they’re smashing models – each could easily be their own character. It’s rare you find this much poise and individuality in a kit of this size outside of an Underworlds warband, but the Vigilors look great.,

However, they are a pain to assemble. Each is made up of a lot of parts, and due to where a lot of the models go together, you’ll need to be extra vigilant (heh) making sure that there are no leftover bits of sprue on the models else they won’t go together.

After the Vigilors, Issue 32 comes with no fewer than 20 miniatures. Sure, they aren’t very big, but they’re pretty fun.

Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Deliver 9 Issues 31-34 Shootas

You’ll be able to build a horde of Moonclan Shootas with this kit. These are quite old models, but are still overflowing with charm – and are extremely easy to assemble. Each is made up of between two and four parts and go together with just a touch of glue. They won’t take you long, and now you’ve got a heap of teensy goblins to be painting. Nice.

The final set of miniatures you’ll get in Delivery 9 is the Knight-Judicator with Gryph-hounds who comes with Issue 33. Just look at this guy.

An extremely easy kit to assemble (provided you don’t accidentally cut the peg that connects the Knight-Judicator to his tactical rock like I did…), the Knight-Judicator rounds off what has been a very impressive and pleasing delivery of miniatures.

Paints and Tools

Delivery 9 also furnishes you with two more paints: Issue 34 nets you some Incubi Darkness and the legendary Nuln Oil.

Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Deliver 9 Issues 31-34 Paints

Nuln Oil is one of the best paints for a beginner to intermediate-level painter to have in their arsenal. Able to add depth and shade to a colour, it’s a versatile and useful product to have at your disposal. As you become a more confident painter, you’ll likely find yourself swapping your washes out for regular acrylic paints that you can blend with, and using your washes less and less. However, for the time being, get ready to introduce yourself to a paint that may well change your hobby.

Oh, and try not to spill it.

Premium Kit 2

People who subscribe to Stormbringer via Hachette will also find themselves receiving a few extra bits with Delivery 9. Yup, ladies and gents, it’s time for Premium Kit 2.

Which means it’s time for you to get acquainted to Age of Sigmar’s answer to Warhammer 40,000’s Ghazghkull: Gordrakk, the Fist of Gork.

All the info you need to whet your appetite for the Orruk Warclans and Gordrakk’s Ironjawz can be found in the exclusive premium magazine – that also contains a very complete painting guide as well as a rules tutorial for using Gordrakk in battle.

Which brings us to the model itself:

Now, your Gordrakk will look a little different to the one pictured above. I already own a Gordrakk model, so built a slight variant that isn’t pictured in the build guide. Here’s my painted Gordrakk, built as per the instructions in the magazine (and with a few added bits on the base).

The giant Maw-krusha dragon that he’s perched upon is a tough creature to build. You must be extremely vigilant with your sprue gates and ensure that all your contact points are filed down to perfection or else the beastie will not go together.

Bucketloads of miniatures
Really nice collection of miniatures too
Premium Kit 2 is superb (if you’re a premium subscriber)

Vigilors are a bit of a pest to build.

What a smashing month. Overflowing with miniatures, Delivery 9 is definitely a super satisfying entry into the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer collection. Things only get better if you’re also a premium subscriber, with the addition of a fabulous Ironjawz model. This is definitely another high point in the collection, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

Like the look of anything you’ve seen in this article? Have a look at the issues available over at Forbidden Planet to see if you can pick them up! They’ve also got plenty of other Age of Sigmar books available if you feel like expanding your knowledge of the Age of Sigmar further.

And don’t forget, if you’re more a grimdark sci-fi fan (or just want more miniatures!), check out the Warhammer 40,000 Imperium partworks collection.
