Space Marine Battleforces – Price, Value & Savings Introduction
Tooting my own horn, as usual, I have to say! “I predicted this!” Check the closing comments here It did appear odd over Xmas when the Imperial Fists and Raven Guard had very unique box styles. I said it would be cool if these were readily available all year round. and, well. so far at least, it looks like they are.
Not only are GW still selling those 2 boxes from the Xmas releases, but numerous hobby stores still have them available to order. and now GW is adding even more to the pot.
Each box has a similar theme, One, (sometimes two) faction-specific, commander(s). Upgrade sprues, Then a load of space marine models.
It slightly deters scalpers looking to build their Imperial force by including those commanders and upgrade sprues, but only slightly. We still have Conversions or eBay as sensible options.
With Space Marines being the bread & butter of 40k forces, and with recent complaints of GW’s ongoing price inflations – This is a fantastic way of getting hands-on with a larger force for a little less. Ok, let’s get on with it.
Space Marine Battleforces – Price, Value & Savings Assumptions
ok, so just before I get into it, I need to call out the Elephant in the room. and no, I don’t have any inside knowledge of these boxes before the release, well. Well, like most other content creators I know how to find out the prices of releases on Monday before said release. So the box prices below are confirmed in the Uk. but they are assumed for other regions.
However, one assumption I’ve made below is in regard to the Upgrade sprues included in the box.
The Raven Guard had none, the Imperial Fists had 2 sprues. now WarComteam did say that each of these new boxes comes with upgrade sprues, but not all of the photos reflect them being used at all.
You don’t just get a selection of units in these battleforces, either. Each one comes with a set of detailed upgrade sprues and transfer sheets, so you can make your new Space Marines look like they’ve walked right out of your chosen Chapter’s forge. Flaming braziers, curved chainswords, and bionic enhancements are all here for the enterprising Warhammer hobbyist.

It’s clear the Iron Fists have at least 1 upgrade sprue, but none of the other 3 sets show them being used, except maybe 1 White Scars Biker head.
Now, what’s more complex is that in some upgrade sprues retail sets come with enough components (shoulder pads) for 10 marines, come retail packs double-up the sprues and give you enough for 20.
So I’ve counted the number of marines in the images and assumed 1 or 2 sprues and then doubled/halved/left alone the pack price to accommodate. Hope that makes sense
Now GW, wheres the Space Wolves Box with Ragnar? The Blood Angels Box with Mephiston? and we all know that surely the Dark Angels box will drop as the first place we can get Azrael.
All just in time for 10th edition in June – oh what a year of 40k this will be!

When it comes to the poster boys, we are going marine-heavy in this set. which is essentially just intercessors, Hellblasters and Bladeguard. For our true UM Flavour we also get Marneus along with his honour guard and Tigurius. Buy this with Guilliman and you’re pretty well stocked.

Salamanders: Warforged Strike Force
Another marine heavy box, but with a little less variety. we have 20 intercessors here. The Eradicators and aggressors are a bonus to that samey approach of basic marines.

White Scars: Storm of Chogoris
It’s all-out vehicle warfare in the White Scars box, one of the best value sets too. Khan and the assumed upgrade sprues are essentially free bonuses here, so no matter what army you collect, this is worth picking up for the slight saving alone.

Raven Guard Ravenstrike Battle Force (Contents, Price, Value & Savings)
Maybe it’s a black (armour) thing, but it seems that if that is your chosen shade then you are getting (Dread)naughty in what you offer buyers. This is similar to the Iron Hands set with a lighter more nimble touch. The Intercessors are now Reivers and the Dreads are now Warsuits.
Swap out the lead character and librarian/Techmarine and it’s a very similar box. even in hue!

Though the individual characters and the Chapter Specific Upgrades spure here, slightly deter anyone looking to simply bolster another Space Marine force on a budget.
Removing those models from your set significantly reduces any savings that people were looking to scalp both boxes for.
If only there were a global online marketplace where you could sell those unwanted components.
