Warhammer Age of Sigmar 2023 Battleforce Boxes – Release Date

The pre-order window for the AOS Battleforce Boxes opens at 10:00 AM (BST) on Saturday 11th November.

On that, though not confirmed, it’s likely that the pre-order window will only be open for one week (GW hasn’t said otherwise), so you can potentially expect these boxes in your hands well before Christmas, starting on the following week of 18th November.

The AOS Battleforce boxes will be released alongside their 40K brethren this year, so expect to see a lot of traffic on the GW website, as well as whatever LFGS site you use too. As GW have proven with their Leviathan release, they have a queueing system in place now to mitigate server blackouts and crashes, but with such desirable items, you really never know what may happen. And FOMO is the name of the Warhammer sales game these days, so don’t get complacent and expect these sell out fast. So have the chosen website open at least 15 minutes before 10:00 AM and smack that refresh button to a bloody pulp (if you have to) to be in for a chance.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar 2023 Battleforce Boxes – Price and Savings

The UK prices for the boxes have been confirmed as £135.00 GBP flat. For Europe, it is said to be €175.00 EUR. For the US, estimated to be $225.00 USD flat.

As of writing this article, we haven’t heard of the Canadian or Australian prices.

Compared to last year, there has definitely been a price increase of £5 – which isn’t as high as the 40K boxes’ increase of £10. As we live in a world of ever increasing rates and inflation, this is perhaps to be expected. Or maybe they increase because they know people will pay. Either way, the savings are very decent and are basically GW’s version of a sale – bundle a bunch of kits into a single thematic box, saving you almost up to £100 as opposed to buying them individually.

Here’s a summary of all the values of the Battleforce boxes.

GBPUSDEUR
Seraphon – Primordial Starhost£202.50$325.00€267.50

Seraphon – Primordial Starhost (Contents, Price & Savings)

Now, just because I am biased towards anything that resembles a dinosaur, we’ll start with the Seraphon formerly known as the Lizardmen. All these miniatures are brand new sculpts, all released earlier in the year, much needed updates on 30 year old sculpts.

Although it’s a fantastic set of miniatures, they will only net you an average 33% discount overall – which still makes them the second highest savings made in the group.

The Primordial Starhost is worth 960 points on the tabletop.

Seraphon – Primordial Starhost Contents

  • 1x Slann Starmaster
  • 3x Aggradon Lancers
  • 3x Kroxigor/ Kroxigor Warspawned

Ossiarch Bonereapers – Praetorian Spearhead (Contents, Price & Savings)

It’s time to get a little bit spooky with the best valued box of the lot – the Ossiarch Bonereapers Praetorian Spearhead. This box by far has the largest discount of 41% average, on par with the 40K Battleforces. It has an eclectic mix of lots of infantry and big unit models, as well as cavalry – I can see this one being the most popular Sigmar box.

It also contains a whopping 1240 points, making the largest force of the Sigmar lot this year.

Ossiarch Bonereapers – Praetorian Spearhead Contents

  • 1x Arch-Kavalos Zandtos/ Liege-Kavalos
  • 5x Kavalos Deathriders
  • 20x Mortek Guard
  • 1x Gothizzar Harvester

Slaves to Darkness – Warhorde of Eternus (Contents, Price & Savings)

The Warhorde of Eternus, if you’re a Chaos collector, is quite an appealing box for its infantry and cavalry choices. However, with Eternus at the head, it does thematically restrict this Slaves to Darkness force to a Be’lakor one rather than an Archaon one – though this can be remedied by building him as a regular joe Chaos Lord. That said, these are all new sculpts from late last year – it’s basically the Slaves to Darkness launch set with Eternus and some Chaos Warriors sprinkled in.

The savings are also the lowest of the lot, averaging out at 30%. Regardless, it’s a great start for those wanting to start a Slaves army, netting you 960 points instantly.

Slaves to Darkness – Warhorde of Eternus Contents

  • 1x Eternus, Blade of the First Prince/ Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount
  • 3x Ogroid Theridons
  • 5x Chaos Knights
  • 5x Chaos Chosen
  • 10x Chaos Warriors

Soulblight Gravelords – Vengorian Court (Contents, Price & Savings)

Finally, we have the archetypal Death faction, the Soulblight Gravelords. This box contains the most miniatures of the lot, most of them skeletons and wolves. As far as I am aware, these are all newish models too, from the last couple of years. In terms of savings, we’re talking on the lower side here with 30% all around. Still, it’s a lot of miniatures to start a decent force with, 990 points worth.

Soulblight Gravelords – Vengorian Court Contents

  • 1x Lauka Vai, Mother of Nightmares/ Vengorian Lord
  • 5x Blood Knights
  • 20x Deathrattle Skeletons
  • 10x Dire Wolves
  • 3x Fell Bats

Warhammer Age of Sigmar 2023 Battleforce Boxes – Final Thoughts

Now, this year’s offerings are strange compared to last year. We only get 4, in comparison to 40K’s 6, so there’s less choice on the table. Furthermore, if you’re wanting something from Grand Alliance Destruction, like Orks or those mushroom grots, then you’ve been left out in the cold this year. Surely GW could have taken out one of the Death factions and slotted in a Destruction one, if they were only going to do 4 boxes? Then you’d have one for each Grand Alliance.

The other thing that struck me was the inevitable comparison with the 40K Battleforces, who had significantly better savings on the whole. I’m not sure what the deciding factors are that go into what kit goes into which box, but these do feel a little bit lacklustre when looking at the 40K ones. Still, you are getting savings, and if one of these armies are your jam, you’re gonna be happy no matter what.

Let’s see what 2024 brings us this time next year – maybe a Mega-Gargants box, a Daemons one, or if I were a betting man, a Cities of Sigmar one to compliment this year’s new releases.

And that wraps up this year’s Christmas releases from GW. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below, and we hope you are successful in getting the boxes you wanted this Saturday 10 AM. Feliz Navidad!
