GW have announced this in their Sunday previews, which means the Release date for Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults is March 18th 2023.

Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults£75.00$120.00*$150.00*€95.00*$200.00*
*Unable to find an equivalent £75 Uk boxed set, Global prices are estimated.

As I could not find a product priced at £75 on GW’s UK web store, the global prices have been guesstimated

Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults – Price Value & Savings Summary

Pretty decent on the savings side, with almost 40% off the retail prices

GBPUSDCADEURAUD
Total Value£121.00$202.00$241.00€153.00$320.00
Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults Price£75.00$120.00*$150.00*€95.00*$200.00*

Not a bad way to start a Genestealer Cults army.

Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults – Contents

Another decent variety of units.

  • 1 x Kelermorph
  • 1 x Abominant
  • 10 x Acolyte Hybrids
  • 5 x Aberrants

Once again the leader can be pretty much ignored in this set as his value is less than half of what you save (RRP). Even with the Abominant, you are still getting some discount. So for those who want to double up on sets for a bigger starter force. Wade in. You can always stick the extras on eBay.

Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults – Value

A breakdown of how the above values were calculated

GBPUSDCADEURAUD
Kelermorph£19.00$33.50$38.00€24.00$52.00
Abominant£19.50$33.50$38.00€24.00$43.00
Acolyte Hybrids£55.00$90.00$110.00€70.00$150.00
Aberrants£27.50$45.00$55.00€35.00$75.00
Total Value£121.00$202.00$241.00€153.00$320.00

There are 10 Hybrids in this set but only 5 per retail bbox.

Jordan: Now, Genestealer Cults are an interesting army. From what I’ve seen of them, they can be hard to balance – they can hit hard and are reliant on stratagems and other tricks abilities, but rather squishy to boot. I’m not a GSC player, so any GSC players feel free to correct me as I try to comment on this boxset’s value in gameplay.

First thing you may notice in the points table is the huge spaces dedicated to noting the Proficient Planning upgrades, as each unit in the box gets them (though not all get A Perfect Ambush). Choose these upgrades wisely, as you will rack up points costs the more you get carried away with them, but it is my belief that these upgrades are what make Genestealer Cults fun to play, and more importantly to put some even ground between them and the more conventional armies. For example, Lying in Wait will allow your infantry to be set up as reinforcements, who can then later be put 3″ away from enemy models in a “Surprise, Motha****” move your opponent will surely appreciate. This is one of this army’s greater abilities in my opinion, especially for Boarding Actions – imagine rushing through winding corridors only for your enemy to appear behind you and slap you with a mining drill. Genestealers gonna gene-steal, as Space Hulk fans might say (probably, probably not).

Now, the overall points cost of this box does fall 110 points under 500 – so you’ll have the opportunity to sprinkle as much flavour as you’d like. Personally, I’d add another unit of infantry – probably another squad of Acolyte Hybrids – to bring your model count, as I believe GSC do well as a horde army, and you’ll still have some points left over to give them some Proficient Planning upgrades. Lying in Wait looks the most appealing and will really optimise well with Boarding Actions.

Oh, and that Abominant is absolutely not one to trifle with in close combat. His Power Sledgehammer has -3 AP and D3+3 damage, as well as the ability to re-roll hit rolls or wound rolls and roll a D6 everytime it loses a wound; on a 5+, it loses nothing. It’s a scary thing to come up against on the board and invaluable for players with this box.

Overall, my impression of this box is that it is melee-heavy, but works with GSC traits and abilities as they can go into ambush mode and spawn almost next to your foe’s models. You have the Kelermorph and Hybrids for shooting, but on the whole, this is a decent starting force and one the Four-Armed Emperor would be proud of, if they weren’t so concerned with their lunch all the time. If you’re a GSC veteran or starting a revolution yourself, this is the box for you.
