Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Introduction

We’re back with another monthly round-up of all things Imperium-related. We’re now steaming headlong towards the end of the collection, with only a handful more deliveries to go – and yet we’re still missing a few big models, such as the man himself, Robute Guilliman.

So, what delights lay in store this month? Read on to find out.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Contents

Here’s this month’s pile – and it’s definitely a promising one.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19 All

The Necrons definitely hold sway this month. If you’re a fan of the skelebots of the 41st Millennium, this is a delivery you’ll want to look out for.

The Magazines: Issues 71-74

First off, let’s take a quick look at the four magazines that come with this month’s delivery.

Issue 71 furnishes buyers with the first of several sprues you’ll need to build the Lychguard (that’s one of them on the cover, too – you can also build them with shields).

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19 Magazine 71

There’s a good smattering of Space Marine lore in Issue 71, including a look at Black Templars High Marshal Helbrecht and a short story amongst other bits. The assembly guide for the Lychguard is also in this issue, so don’t set it aside.

Issue 72 sees a further up-close look at the heroes and villains of the Space Marines and Necrons, with pages dedicated to Zahndrekh, Illuminator Szeras, the Supreme Grand Master of the Dark Angels, Azrael, and his buddy Lazarus. This issue also contains the other parts you needs to build your new Lychguard.

There’s another short story, a paint guide for your Necrons, and a bunch of new gameplay rules, tutorials, and datasheets too.

Issue 73 also decries more heroes of the Imperium, with pages dedicated to The Sanguinor and Gabriel Seth of the Flesh Tearers.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19 Magazine 73

The majority of Issue 73 is given over to several substantial paint guides: one for the Lokhust Heavy Destroyer that comes in this issue, another for adding details to some of the Space Marines and Adepta Sororitas models you’ve received thus far, and another deigned to help you paint face details. The last few pages have a new tutorial, as well as a veteran mission for you to play.

Issue 73’s fold out takes you on a journey to a Blackstone Fortress for an up-close look at one of the ancient space stations.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19 Magazine 73 Pull Out

Finally, Issue 74 is all about Chaos (aside from two pages that focus on Space Wolves heroes Ulrik the Slayer and Bjorn the Fell-Handed.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19 Magazine 74

There’s also a decent painting guide for your Firestrike Servo-Turret, as well as a tutorial on how to make the most out of this heavy-hitting unit on the battlefield.

miniature

In line with the last few deliveries, which have been practically groaning under the sheer weight of models received with each (especially if you’re a Premium subscriber), Delivery 19 is suitably packed to the brim with new miniatures.

The first you’ll receive are five Lychguard. Whilst they’re by no means the most difficult Necron units to assemble, they do suffer from some of the same quirks and foibles that any regular purchaser will be used to by now.

There’s a lot of awkward-to-fit flat surface components that need to be attached onto other flat surfaces – two arms onto two wrists holding the weapons are the best example. It’s not cripplingly difficult, but can be a bit of a faff at times.

The option is there to build these miniatures carrying shields and single-handed weapons, which might actually be easier than having to juggle gluing to arms onto a torso and a weapon simultaneously, so choose carefully.

In contrast, the Lokhust Heavy Destroyer is far easier. The majority of the miniature is push-fit, in line with more recent Necron releases, and does go together with relative ease.

It can be built with an alternative heavy weapon, too. In terms of the Necron models we’ve seen over the course of the subscription, the Lokhust Heavy Destroyer is by far one of the easiest to put together.

Finally, we arrive at the Firestrike Servo-Turret. This model is so easy to built it practically puts itself together. It’s nice, too, replete with Techmarine in-situ.

In a way, though, this does simply serve to show just how behind some ranges are in comparison to the much-loved and highly-cared-for Space Marines. Modelmaking has come on a great deal over the last decade, and whilst the Necron range did experience something of a facelift when Ninth Edition dropped back in July 2020, parts of it still have a long way to come.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Price and Availability

So, what are the savings like with this delivery?

Emissione n.Prezzo di emissione (GBP)Valore totale (GBP)Risparmi totali
71£ 8,99£16.25£7.26
72£ 8,99£16.25£7.26
73£ 8,99£ 21,00£ 12,01
74£ 8,99£ 21,00£ 12,01
TOTALI£ 35,96£ 74,50£38.54

And once more for those of you in the US:

Emissione n.Prezzo di emissione (USD)Valore totale (USD)Risparmi totali
71$11.95$27.50$13.55
72$11.95$27.50$13.55
73$11.95$35.00$21.05
74$11.95$35.00$21.05
TOTALI$47.80$125.00$77.20

Even with the Lychguard spread across two issues (usually a sure-fire way of smacking the overall value of a Delivery down) there are still significant savings of over 50% to be had in Delivery 19.

Whilst there aren’t, perhaps, as many models as you’d expect to see associated with an overall value of £74.50/$125.00, these are nonetheless high-value miniatures. If you’re in the market for some Lychguard, a Servo-Turret, or a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer or two, this might be your best bet to get one at a knock-down price.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Final Thoughts

Given that there seems to be more and more Blackstone Fortress articles, is it likely that Hachette wants to do a Blackstone Fortress series? How would that work in practice?

Interesting idea. Not sure Hachette would do a dedicated Blackstone Fortress series as such, but there may be a chance we see some Blackstone Fortress minis in a further 40K partwork.

Given that Stormbringer looks to be containing lots of different factions as standard, perhaps a similar format will follow for any further 40K series. If so, there may be a chance to see some more Blackstone Fortress stuff!

I have a question about bonus materials that occasionally show up in these reviews. I see that the Issue #50 shipment had short story books and a recent issue had an Inquisitor Greyfax model. Are these for premium users, or just UK customers? Getting those books was a strong incentive to sticking around to Issue #50, and the US shipment 44-47 didn’t have the opt out letter I keep seeing referenced here. Thanks!
