Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20: Issues 75-78 Review – Introduction

The end is now very much in sight as the twentieth Warhammer 40,000 Imperium delivery heads towards letterboxes. With only one miniature left to go from the original collection and the recently-announced issues 81-90 yet to be sent out, the sun is certainly beginning to set on what has been a phenomenal run of magazines.

But there’s no need to be getting misty-eyed just yet! There are still a few more months of Imperium left to go – and some seriously cool models yet to find their way into your posession.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20: Issues 75-78 Review – Contents

This month sees a low-count but good-value collection of models hitting your painting desk (or pile of shame/potential if you’re that way inclined). Here’s what you can expect:

So, what is all this? Let’s have a closer look.

The Magazines: Issues 71-74

As ever, we’ll have a quick whistle-stop and spoiler-free tour of the four magazines that come with this month’s delivery.

First up: Issue 75.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20 Issues 75-78 Magazine 75

Issue 75 sees the arrival of the Leagues of Votann within the Imperium subscription. Whilst we won’t be seeing any models of 40K’s latest faction as a part of this subscription, there are a few sides of background on the newly yassified Squats (to give them their original name).

That’s not all, either: there’s a good spread of background info on a few other factions, the Dharrovar setting, as well as a few sides of short story to further whet your appetite for Issue 75’s cover stars. If that wasn’t enough, there are no fewer than deux complete painting guides for your Haemotrope Reactor, giving you the option to grime them up a bit as well!

Issue 76 sees the Space Marine ATV screeching onto the front page. There are a few sides of lore (nothing about the ATV though; no juicy reveals that it is in fact named after some weirdly-named Heresy-era inventor, the same way that the Land Raider is supposedly named after Arkhan Land and not the fact that it, y’know, raids land), but the weight of the issue lies in getting your new ATV built, painted, and zooming around the battlefield.

Issue 77 sees the Necrons wrest the limelight away from the Imperium as the first sprue of the final Necron model from the original contents list makes its arrival. The Necron Catacomb Command Barge comes spread across two issues, and sees the cover art take a turn for the green. There’s also the fold-out for this delivery, which takes readers to the Ardis System.

Don’t expect the Necrons to receive any air time in the lore pages within – the Imperium still have that locked down. The Necrons do re-surface in the latter part of the magazine with the Catacomb Command Barge build guide as well as a pinch of rules for playing with this impressive model.

Finally, Issue 78 provides buyers with the second part of the Command Barge, an entire first-half of a magazine dedicated to Slaanesh, and then an extensive guide on painting and playing games with the Catacomb Command Barge.

Miniatures

There aren’t a huge number of models in Delivery 20, but here’s a look at what’s included. First up, we have another Haemotrope Reactor.

I mean, it’s pretty interesting as far as bits of scenery go, but this late in the collection this does feel like a bit of a disappointment. Mercifully, it takes about 60 seconds to assemble, so putting it together won’t eat into your hobby time.

Moving swiftly on, Issue 76 blesses buyers with the awesome Space Marine ATV.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20 Issues 75-78 Primaris ATV

Subject to enough Mario Kart memes to sink a franchise yet still going strong, the Space Marine ATV is an easy to assemble and fun little mode. Sure, it might be a little bit tongue in cheek as far as Space Marine units go, but this will be a fun one to get painted up and send spinning around the tabletop.

I also un peu wish I had the electrical engineering expertise to turn this into a tiny RC car so I could chase my cat around with it.

Last but not least for this month, we have the impressive Necron Catacomb Command Barge.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20 Issues 75-78 Necron Command Barge

Whilst we’ll be seeing a Hexmark Destroyer and Illuminator Szeras making an appearance in the expanded issues 81-90, the Necron Catacomb Command Barge would have been an interesting model to end the Necron collection on. Why? Because it simultaneously proves that Necron miniatures can be relatively straightforward to build (especially within the grand scheme of this collection), but also falls short of the miniature the Space Marines will be receiving next month: Robute Guilliman himself.

It’s the foresight/hindsight that spoils the Command Barge. I feel that the Necrons should have been billed as ending on a bigger bang than this – and whilst Szeras and the Hexmark Destroyer might go some way to scratching that itch, both models will for a lot of people fall short of the Emperor’s Avenging Son and a freakin’ dreadnought. Heck, even the Adepta Sororitas finish on a higher note, with issues 81-90 bestowing some brand-new Paragon Warsuits on purchasers.

The Necrons deserved a better – maybe a Doomsday Arc or a Night Scythe. Perhaps even one of the old C’tans. I dunno.

Vous en pensez quoi ?

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 20: Issues 75-78 Review – Final Thoughts

PourContre
Space Marine ATV is a really cool miniature
Necron Command Barge is a nice model – and not too hard to assemble!
Very good price, plenty of savings to be had
…Why are we getting another Haemotrope Reactor?

With the Imperium subscription slowly coming towards its terminus, we can expect to see more high-value, high-anticipation models appearing across the remaining deliveries.

Delivery 20 is a close-run thing. The ATV is definitely a high point, and the Catacomb Command Barge is a surprisingly pleasing Necron model. The Haemotrope Reactor is an odd inclusion, but as a high-value piece of scenery, it will appeal to some collectors.
