Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 11: Issues 39-42 Review – Introduction

Another month has flown by, and with it we come towards the latter days of 2023. It’s been a good one for miniatures this year, with some spectacular Workshop sui giochi releases over the last twelve months. That said, it’s also been an utterly triumphant year for partworks magazines: with the triumphant end of the phenomenal Warhammer Imperium collection (of which there are still many issues available over at Forbidden Planet!) and the beginning of what has so far been a its fantastic successor in the Stormbringer magazines, the good folks at Hachette Partworks have have kept us all very busy over the last year.

And it’s not stopping any time soon, either. With Delivery 11, we just about cross the half-way point for the collection, so there’s still plenty more to come. So, for the last time in 2023, let’s take a deep-dive into this year’s final Stormbringer delivery.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 11: Issues 39-42 Review – Contents

Delivery 11 has a lot going for it. With a collection of high-value miniatures, some useful paints and some interesting magazines, there’s lots to get stuck in to.

The Magazines

First off, we’ll have a quick, spoiler-free look at the contents of the magazines. Issue 39, resplendent with a gorgeous picture of Alarielle the Everqueen on its front, is heavy with things to read and be getting on with. As this issue came with two new shade paints, you’ll find there’s a large painting guide for using these new paints on your miniatures.

Issue 40 is, again, heavy on the lore. The Spirit of Durthu construction guide (that is entirely contained in this magazine) is surprisingly short, so there’s plenty of spare paper for stories and battle reports. Issue 41contains the most thorough painting guide yet, with instruction on how to drybrush, as well as taking your new Spirit of Durthu miniature from grey to nearly fully painted with the paints you’ve acquired so far. If the sudden lack of lore reading after Issues 39 and 40 leave you feeling like you’re going without, there’s a fold-out with this issue to keep you ticking over. Finally, Issue 42 is also made up of a rather large painting guide for Mollog the Mighty and his mob of misfits.

miniature

There aren’t all that many miniature in Delivery 11. In fact, there are only four. However, one of them is rather large.

The Spirit of Durthu is an almighty tree-creature, towering over the other Sylvanth you’ve received up to this point. What’s more, this large miniature is actually quite easy to build. Given how fiddly some of the Sylvanth models can be (and how breakable they can be too), the Spirit of Durthu is surprisingly straightforward and there aren’t too many parts.

It also looks freakin’ awesome when together, which really helps.

The Spirit of Durthu isn’t the only really nice miniature in this delivery. Check out Mollog’s Mob.

These whacky guys are super simple to build and look absolutely spectacular when they’re together. An out-of-print Warhammer Underworlds warband, Mollog’s Mob will be really, really desirable for collectors

Vernici e strumenti

Issue 39 nets you two new shade paints: Athonian Camoshade and Paralume di Reikland.

Athonian Camoshade is great for the use on natural green textures – leaves, grass and mosses. It’s also a good one to have for dark khakis on Imperial Guardsman, and even good on orc and goblin flesh. Paralume di Reikland, however, is one of the best shade paints going: a lifesaver for unconfident or inexperienced painters when it comes to skin, a little wash of Paralume di Reikland adds decent, believable shading to a pale/Caucasian skin texture.

…And once again for our friends in the US.

Emissione n.Prezzo di emissione (USD)Valore totale (USD)Risparmio totale (USD)
Numero 39$13.95$15.60$1.65
Numero 40$13.95$37.50$23.55

Numero 42$13.95$42.00*$28.05
TOTALI$55.80$132.60$76.80
*Based on the standard value of current in-production Warhammer Underworlds sets.

There is something important to note with the valuations above in reference to Issue 42, which comes with Mollog’s Mob. Sure, most Underworlds Warbands usually circle the £26.00/$42.00 mark, but you can’t actually get Mollog’s Mob anymore. As such, the value of this set increases: people will be willing to spend more in order to get their hands on this.

In all, there are some rather nice savings to be had here. Well worth it.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 11: Issues 33-42 Review – Final Thoughts

The GoodThe Bad
Great models, some of which are now very difficult to get a hold of
Really useful shade paints that will help painters
Loads of savings to be had
Fishing about a bit, but some of the bits on the Spirit are a touch breakable.

Whilst Stormbringer doesn’t necessarily see 2023 out with a resounding bang, it certainly does so with a rather nice little Christmas present. It’s not a deluge of amazing models that leaves jaws dropped and eyes wide – but the Spirit of Durthu and Mollog’s Mob are some seriously cool miniatures coming your way at a serious knock-down price.

4.5/5*

*We’ve, uh, had some problems with some of the stuff going on in the background of our site recently, and our star rating tool has broken. Hopefully it’ll be fixed soon, but for now here’s a numerical representation. Hope you can remember fractions from school!
