This Boarding Patrol box offers decent savings averaging 37% – except for the Aussies, who get a big boost in savings at 42%, which is a nice switcharoo considering previous Boarding Patrol boxes often offered lower savings for those in the Land Down Under. You are almost getting quite a chunk of the box for free, individual values considered.
Boarding Patrol: Leagues of Votann – Contents
21 miniatures total make up this Boarding Patrol – and boy, is it a meaty one.
Given these are all models released only last year, they’re all fantastic and representative of what modern GW can do with their sculpts. Each model is individually crafted with unique screenshots of action. If you wanted to start an army of space dwarves, then this ought to be the first place you go to!
Furthermore, this force appears to have you covered very well in both melee and shooting, with tough units to boot – the perfect kind of army list you want for a Boarding Patrol.
Boarding Patrol: Leagues of Votann – Value
In the table below, we’ve outlined the individual values of each kit in the box to give you an idea of what you save.
GBP | USD | GOUJAT | EUR | AUD | |
Champion d'Einhyr | £ 25,00 | $40.00 | $50.00 | 32,50 € | $69.00 |

Valeur totale | 135,00 £ | $220.00 | $270.00 | €177.50 | $376.00 |
What makes this box all the more valuable is that all the kits (bar one) sit in the same price range – so it drives up the number of miniatures and gives you more plastic to play with, making the box feel more satisfying for the price with the amount you get.

Now, this gives me flashbacks to Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes – did you notice too?
Yep, the points cost goes way over the 500 point threshold required for Boarding Actions – and that’s before calculating all the extensive wargear options.
So, though as good as the box is, it’s not entirely ready to play out of the box. You’ll need to subtract at least 140 points to make it playable.
That’s not too difficult – but that really depends on what kind of units you want in your Boarding Patrol list. Taking out the Cthonian Berserks would get you down to 475 points, but you would lose on a valuable unit that hits hard in melee – which is incredibly useful in a game where your warriors will meet hand on fist very quickly. Alternatively, you could take out the Einhyr Hearthguard and get yourself down to 415 points – but you lose a valuable shooting and melee unit who can also teleport – so you’ve really got to weigh up how you want to play to pare the box down.
Irrespective of that, we’ll take a quick dive into what these units can deliver on the tabletop. We’ll start with the Einhyr Champion, the box’s HQ unit. This is someone you’ll want at the fore, as he has 4+ invulnerable save and his Wounds characteristic goes to 6 with the Shield Crest keyword. If you pair him with a Darkstar Axe, he’ll get an extra hit that cannot be ignored by whatever enemy rules are present, but if you go with the Mass Hammer, you’ll get more opportunities to roll for damage with D3+3, but at the cost of having to subtract 1 from hit roll. He has the ability to teleport, which is invaluable in Boarding Actions, allowing you to score points early. Lastly, he has an aura that buffs Einhyr Hearthguard within 6″ and allows them to re-roll wounds. Clearly, the inclusion of Einhyr Hearthguard is meant to synergise with the Champion, so it’s a good idea to keep them together.
Speaking of which, the Einhyr Hearthguard can also teleport around the map. Being large exo-suits, you can bet they’ll be ferocious in a scrap – and they have a lot of weapons to choose from – in fact, fit each model with a different one and you’ll get the best of all worlds. Much like their Champion, they get the Shield Crest keyword, but their Wounds characteristic only increases to 3 – but with 5 of them on the board, they can hop onto objectives and hold the fort down. Their Exo-Armour allows them to subtract 1 from the damage characteristic of any attack that comes barrelling toward them.
Despite being a mostly melee unit, the Cthonian Berserks are also equipped with one model fielding a single Mole grenade launcher – which can target units not visible to the bearer. With the Augmented ability, the Berserks can potentially negate a wound on a lucky 5+ roll, and with Cyberstimms they can re-roll charge rolls and can fight one last time after being destroyed.
Last of all, the Hearthkyn Warriors are your rank and file infantry, made to either distract your enemy with volleys of firepower or squat (get it? get it?) on objectives to frustrate your opponent. This unit differs from a lot of the classic infantry units in other armies with their high levels of customisability – seriously, look up their datasheet if you have a chance. They have a whole lotta guns to choose from, but they will set you back in points if you go overboard. Notably, award the unit with one Pan spectral scanner and you’ll able to hit targets trying to hide behind light cover – which will take you far in Boarding Actions, which is made of it. With a multitude of differing weapon profiles and wargear, you’ll want to carefully plan how you build this unit to make it fit for the battlefield.
If you got down this far, I congratulate you – this is a big box set with a lot to talk about, and for the price you get a very promising start to a Leagues of Votann army. If dwarves in space are your thing, be sure to pre-order your copy this Saturday 10am on the dot to avoid disappointment, as we expect this boxset to be very popular.
