Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6: Issues 19-22 Review – Introduction

We’re back with another round-up of everything Warhammer Partworks. July has been an interesting month for Stormbringer, with a whole host of different goodies up for grabs. This month promises new miniatures, new paints, and a supply-drop of new brushes!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6: Issues 19-22 Review – Contents

Here’s everything up for grabs this month. Believe it or not, but there are some (very) white brushes in the bottom left-hand corner of this picture!

We’ll have a closer look at everything now.

The Magazines

As with every month, Issues 19-22 come with loads of stuff to keep you busy until your next delivery.

Be prepared to be astounded by Sigmar’s Storm – the campaighn that brougfht the Age of Chaos to an end. Learn the secrets of Waaagh! Magic, and be prepared to be trampled under the feet of Mega-gargants. Dive deep into the wastes to learn of the fell creatures of chaos before journeying into the Realm of Shadow where Khainites reside.

Beyond the Mortal Realms, you’ll discover a handy guide containing construction techniques for building your miniatures, as well as painting guides for Gardus Steel Soul and your Marshcrawla Sloggoth. Finally, get your miniatures onto the tabletop with more rules and missions to sink your teeth into.

There aren’t actually all that many models in this month’s delivery, but what there is has the virtue of being fairly high value.

First up, we have Gardus Steel Soul. New hobbyists who are just getting into Warhammer via the Stormbinger collection might notice that Gardus’ aesthetic is a bit different.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6 Issues 19-22 Gardus Steel Soul (2)

Gardus is one of the “original” generation of Stormcast Eternals miniatures (the ones often referred to as “Sigmarines” for their design proximity to Space Marines). When Age of Sigmar Third Edition launched, the Stormcast Eternals faction enjoyed something of a slimming down of their look, and their bulky, heavy armour was done away with in favour of the sleeker look you see on more recent miniatures.

That aside, Gardus remains a nice mini to have – he’s a bit different compared to a lot of the range, in part dfue to his superhero landing pose as well as some of the details on his armour. As you can see from the image above, however, Gardus may come with some rather big mould lines (see his left leg), so make sure you have a remover tool on hand.

The other miniature you get this month, spread across two issues, is the Marshcrawla Sloggoth – a roided-up Gollum with a couple of goblin passengers.

This mini is one that’s caused a bit of excitement since it was first announced as being included in the collection. Another high-value figure, the Sloggoth is the first large miniature to be included for the Kruleboyz part of the Stormbringer collection.

It’s not the easiest model to assemble, however. Builders will need to be aware of the canopy on the Sloggoth’s back, which can prove to be a bit fiddly to put together. The guide will also direct you to keep the Sloggoth’s three goblin passengers separate for ease of painting – but this is entirely up to you.

Vernici e strumenti

There are two new paints in this month’s delivery: Averland Sunset and Gryph-charger Grey.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6 Issues 19-22 Paints

As far as yellow paints go, Averland Sunset is alright. It’s not the best (I’m a fan of the Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats Paints yellow triad), but it’s still leaps and bounds ahead of some of the alternatives. Gryph-charger Grey is a Contrast Paint – the first we’ve seen as part of this collection. Contrast paints are designed to be applied in one thick layer over a basecoat to create the impression of both a basecoat and a shade. There’s more information on using this new type of paint in Issue 22.

Of course, by now you might be thinking that you could do with a new brush or two. All these different types of paint and a big miniature to get some colour onto, your arsenal of brushes may be looking a little underwhelming.

Well, you’re in luck! Subscribers receive three new brushes with Deliveyr 6 – an STC Base L, an STC Dry L and a STC Shade M.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6 Issues 19-22 Brushes

Each brush is designed to be used slightly differently. The Base L is, as you may guess, for basecoats. The STC Dry is for drybrushing (it’s fatter but the brush’s flat head is designed to work better for this technique), and the Shade M has a longer but larger tip designed to hold more aqueous paints.

We reviewed the STC Brush Range a while back. We ultimately concluded that as far as synthetic brushes go, Citadel’s range are a definite step in the right direction. They are not perfect, and in the years since these brushes first came out, we’ve encountered new issues with them – such as the brush heads falling off the handle, and the brushes themselves not being quite as hardwearing as others – but they still remain fairly decent synthetic alternatives.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6: Issues 19-22 Review – Bonus Ogor Pack

Last month , subscribers will have been given the option to opt-out of receiving the Ogor Mawtribes Tyrant Character Pack. If you didn’t opt-out (because you either wanted this additional mag and model, or you simply forgot), you’ll receive this bonus issue and extra figure.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6 Issues 19-22 Bonus Magazine

The magazine itself is very similar to the normal Stormbringer magazines you’ll receive. It contains some lore about this character, a build and paint guide for this miniature, and the rules you need to use this model in your games of Age of Sigmar.

And the titular miniature is pretty impressive.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6 Issues 19-22 Ogor Tyrant (2)

In fact, even calling this figure a miniature feels dishonest – it’s massive! The Ogor Tyrant will tower over most of your Kruleboyz and Stormcast Eternals miniatures. He’s an impressive figure, too, covered in heaps of details that will be delightful to paint.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 6: Issues 19-22 Review – Final Thoughts

The GoodThe Bad
The two miniatures in this month’s delivery are really nice, however…
Decent savings.
Reasonable brushes.
…there are only two models in this month’s delivery.

This month’s delivery is a promising one. Complete with new paints and brushes, the high-value models (though there are only two of them) will keep painters and collectors happy until the next partworks supply drop.

The savings are what really make this delivery a good ‘un. Gardus Steel Soul and the Marshcrawla Sloggoth available at a serious knock-down price will prick the ears of any Age of Sigmar fan, so make sure you check in with your local newsagents if you’re after any of these issues.

There’s a lot to like here, and plenty to be getting on with.
