Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 3: Issues 7-10 Review – Introduction

Stormbringer was always going to have some pretty big shoes to fill. Following on from the wildly popular Warhammer 40,000 Imperium magazine, which launched Hachette (and FauxHammer.com, if we’re being honest) to a completely new stratosphere of popularity and global reach, following up to this unbelievably popular subscription was always going to be tough.

It’s unsurprising, then, that Stormbringer continues to come out swinging. Over the last few months, we’ve seen good value, miniature-packed issues bursting with awesome models and everything you need to get started with the hobby (or to add to your burgeoning collection if you’re an existing hobbyist already). Delivery 3 is no different, packed with all sorts of goodies – so without further ado, let’s take a closer look!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 3: Issues 7-10 Review – Contents

Here’s everything up for grabs across issues 7-10.

Tons of minis, a few pots of paint, and even more! We’ll have a look at this all in some more detail now.

The Magazines

Issue 7 certainly cuts an impressive figure from its cover, which shows Grimnir fighting the Godbeast Vulcatrix. This magazine, however, is focused almost entirely on painting the miniatures you’ve accumulated to this stage and getting them fighting on the tabletop.

You should also find an insert inside this magazine printed with wound markers. These should have been in Issue 1.

Issue 8 continues in a similar fashion, with large sections given over to painting your Stormcast Eternals models and getting playing the game.

A little lore sneaks back in to Issue 9, focusing on the gods and some of the legendary creatures that inhabit the Mortal Realms, but there’s still a great deal of focus on building, painting, and playing with the miniatures you’ve gained so far. Luckily, for anyone who’s after some AoS lore, Issue 9 comes with a foldout all about Ghur and its inhabitants.

Helpfully, this issue contains several warscrolls for the figures that you’ve collected so far, so you’ll be able to get fighting quickly and easily.

Last but not least, we arrive at Issue 10.Containing a pinch of lore in its first few pages, again the majority of this magazine is given over to getting you playing with your miniatures and learning the rules of Age of Sigmar.

Although it doesn’t say it, Issue 10 also introduces you to Warhammer Underworlds by way of furnishing you with Xandire’s Truthseekers – a Warband designed to be used in this game as well.

miniature

All the miniatures across Issues 7-10 are push-fit which means that they can be assembled without the need for glue. Whilst this appeals to some hobbyiosts (and is great for beginners), there are some downsides to this particular method of construction, as we’ll see.

First up we have the Lord-Imperatant and Gryph-hound. This magnificent and striking model made its debut first in the Age of Sigmar Third Edition trailer and then as a miniature in the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Dominion scatola.

Now, he looks cool as hell, but there are a handful of issues with this miniature caused by his push-fit construction. Some of his components don’t go together all that well, and you might find gaps in his robes and the mantle around his shoulders. You might also get quite a big one down the middle of his Gryph-hound companion.

The easiest way to deal with this is cutting on a few millimetres of the attaching peg off each component. Alternatively, check out our How to fill Gaps & Seams on Miniatures guide.

Here’s how I painted mine, which i received a few years back in the Dominio box:

The gaps on the Swampcalla Shaman and Pot Grot are much better disguised, sitting in the folds of robes or around other bits of gear, such as the Pot Grot’s backpack.

It’s a good thing too, as these guys look super. The Swampcalla Shaman is – in my opinion, at least – one of the best Kruleboyz figures out there, wearing the skull of a giant on his back, carrying his creepy staff, and pouring his mystical potion out. The Pot Grot just adds to the whole scene.

Again, here are the pair all painted up.

Last but not least, we arrive at Xandire’s Truthseekers. First appearing in Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep, these figures are fantastic, covered in details that set them apart from the regular run-of-the-mill Stormcast Eternals.

The sculpted bases are also a huge draw, and I’ve seen a lot of people on various Age of Sigmar and Warhammer groups praising their unique designs.

One thing to be aware of, though, is the bowstring on the archer miniatures. This is a little fragile, so do we careful when assembling this part of the model.

Equipaggiamento

In order to get you playing with your new toys, Delivery 3 also comes with a range ruler.

Measured in inches, this is designed to help you ensure you’re moving your minis the correct distances and are performing ranged attacks correctly. It’s a nice little accessory made of plastic, so shouldn’t break too easily.

Vernici e strumenti

Delivery 3 also comes with two pots of paint and a brush.

Catachan Flesh and Corax white are two very useful paints to have – though Corax White does have a habit of turning into a thick, gluey paste. Interestingly this time around, buyers will reeive Citadels’ synthetic STC brushes as oppose to their normal brushes. However, Citadel’s STC brushes are afflicted with the same curse of curling as most synthetic brushes, and will start to lose their shape fairly quickly. The larger-headed brushes, such as the Base M (which is what you get in this delivery) do last a little better, however, but due to the role that they are intended to fulfil when painting, do pick up and quite fierily retain paint in their bristles.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 3: Issues 7-10 Review – Price and Availability

Here are our usual price breakdowns for these magazines.

Emissione n.Prezzo di emissione (GBP)Valore totale (GBP)Risparmio totale (GBP)

Numero 10£ 8,99£26.00**£ 17,01

And again for our friends in the US.

Emissione n.Prezzo di emissione (USD)Valore totale (USD)Risparmio totale (USD)
Numero 7$13.95$12.35-$1.60
Numero 8$13.95$9.90*-$4.05

Numero 10$13.95$42.00**$28.05
TOTALI$55.80$74.15$18.35

*The value of these is calculated from Age of Sigmar Edizione Extremis, divided by the number of sprues in that set. Both the Lord-Imperatant and Swampcalla Shaman are on a single sprue.

**Xandire’s Truthseekers are no-longer available for purchase, so we’ve priced them based on the value of a current Underworld’s warband.

So, in spite of the Lord-Imperatant and the Swampcalla Shaman being super cool minis, they aren’t actually worth all that much cash on their own. Sure, they’re somewhat paygated behind much larger sets, but within those sets themselves they aren’t actually worth all that much cash.

The value of this Delivery lies within Xandire’s Truthseekers. These extremely desirable models are very hard to get a hold of, so if you’ve managed to net yourself a copy of Issue 10, consider yourselves lucky!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 3: Issues 7-10 Review – Final Thoughts

ProfessionistiContro
Great selection of models
Vernici utili
Underworlds warbands look great
STC brush isn’t the best

Delivery 3 goes some way to carrying the energy any hype imparted by Deliveries 1 and 2 further into the Stormbringer collection. With an array of gorgeous and exciting models available, whilst the savings on these magazines aren’t necessarily the best when you look closer, there’s still a lot to like here.
