Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 16: Issues 59-62 Review – Introduction

Oh boy, this is it. The one we’ve been waiting for.

Well, the one some of us have been waiting for, at least. Since spotting the towering Aleguzzler Gargant back in the contents reveal picture that we first saw now close to two years ago, keen hobbyists and collectors have been keeping their eyes peeled and their add-to-cart-clicking fingers at the ready for when these issues hit the shelves.

There’s a lot more available this month as well – read on for a whistle-stop tour of everything Stormbringer for April 2024.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 16: Issues 59-62 Review – Contents

With a pile of new magazines, a collection of new miniatures, and a bonus character pack for those who subscribed to the Stormbringer collection directly via Hachette Partworks, there’s a lot to be looking forward to this month.

The Magazines

Numero 59, complete with Grundstok Thunderers, takes readers on a tour of the Lumineth Realm-Lords, and also of the terrible fates that await the worshippers of Chaos. There’s also a beefy painting guide for these miniatures, as well as s nice wedge of new rules so you can continue your mastery of Age of Sigmar Third Edition (just in time for it all to be ripped up and changed for Fourth Ed).

Numero 60 – or, for the discerning, Gargant Mag No. 1 – expands your knowledge of the Kararadron Overlords and, very thematically, introduces you to the Aleguzzler Gargant itself. There is guidance on building and painting in sub-assemblies, as well as technique practice for glazing. Of course, the complete build guide for the Gargant is in this magazine – but you’ll also need Numero 61 to complete the model.

After a look at the Realm of Fire in both its opening pages and its fold-out insert, Numero 61 launches into a huge Aleguzzler Gargant painting guide and some rules for the model, before pivoting back a few issues to look at Thundrik’s Profiteers. Finally, Numero 62 devotes many of its pages to painting, with both guidance on how to highlight and how to use your new pai9nts – Cicatrice bianca and Sybarite Green – on your miniatures.

Marching on, let’s have a look at this month’s supply drop of miniatures and models, starting with Numero 59‘s Grundstok Thunderers.

This cohort of heavily-armed duardin on their way to their local Steampunk festival not only look great, but are a breeze to build. Each model is made up of only a few components that are easy to fit together and extremely intuitive, but do not compromise on look or flair for ease of build.

There’s only one other model this month, but he’s quite a big chap.

Spread across Numero 60 e Numero 61, you’ll be able to build the towering Aleguzzler Gargant.

Compared to a lot of the other models we’ve seen in Stormbringer, the Aleguzzler Gargant is by far one of the oldest in the collection (I can remember seeing images of it in White Dwarf magazines what must now be close to 20 years ago). But in spite of his age, the kit holds up brilliantly.

The model comes with enough extras, spares and accessories to equip an entire 1,500 point army – including the iconic Johann running away (not pictured here as mine’s almost certainly going on a base of his own, like this one). If you want to jazz up your Gargant, make sure you familiarise yourself with the entire contents of the sprue before you start building – there are some hooved feet and a horned head you can use that aren’t listed on the build guide.

Vernici e strumenti

Two paints this month: Cicatrice bianca and Sybarite Green.

Cicatrice bianca is intended for the most highlightiest of highlights: those tiny dots of lenses, those teensy dots on sharp corners, that sort of thing. Sybarite Green is a slightly sickly, neon-like colour that probably festoons the hides of many Seraphon models the world over.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 16: Issues 59-62 Review – Bonus Cities of Sigmar Character Pack

People who subscribe to Stormbringer via Hachette Partworks will an additional magazine this month: the Cities of Sigmar Assassin Character Pack.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 16 Issues 59-62 Bonus Character Pack Magazine

This is a bit of a misnomer. The Assassin is an old model from the days of Warhammer Fantasy, re-packaged and re-labelled to work within the confines of Age of Sigmar, and isn’t veramente a model touted as being a part of the faction. It just needed somewhere to go in the new Age, so, y’know, Cities tipo fits.

That aside, it’s a nice one. Dynamic as they come, it’s not an easy model to photograph as its left arm is positioned over its face – but the centrepiece of this model is its dynamic, flowing cloak.

It’s a nice addition – and another old model, presumably to keep the Aleguzzler Gargant company.

…And once again for those of you in the US.

Numero 62$13.95$9.10-$4.85

I think coming into this I had assumed the Aleguzzler Gargant was a higher-value miniature than it actually is. Given that in recent years we’ve seen the release of the colossal Mega-Gargant (with a similarly colossal price tag), I’d assumed the significantly smaller Aleguzzler would be worth a bit more than it actually is.

Not that I’m complaining – cash off is cash off at the end of the day, and you’re making some pretty hefty savings across all the kits available across Issues 59-62. Why pay upwards of forty quid for a miniature when you can get it for under twenty?

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 16: Issues 59-62 Review – Final Thoughts

The GoodThe Bad
Highly-customisable and eagerly-anticipated Aleguzzler Gargant model across two issues!
Let’s not forget the nice Kharadron miniatures as well
Reasonable savings across a number of high-value models
Whilst the miniatures are all high-value, there are only 6 models up for grabs, which might leave some people feeling a tad disappointed

Another month, another lovely collection of goodies from the folks at Hachette Partworks.

There’s very little to say here that I haven’t said before. Stormbringer continues to deliver stand-out savings and excellent models at reliable intervals. There is little to no quality drop from month to month, and whilst there are perhaps not so many miniatures available in April, those that are up for grabs are really, really nice.
