Boarding Patrol: Agents of the Imperium – Price, Value & Savings Summary

Below is a summary of the savings provided by the box.

GBPDólar estadounidenseCANALLAEURAUD
Valor total£ 137.50$220.00$275.00€182.50$378.00
Boarding Patrol: Agents of the Imperium Price£ 85.00$140.00*$170.00*€110.00*$220.00*

* Residencia en Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Mechanicus (same UK price)

The savings range between 38-42%, with Aussie and European readers getting the better end of the stick for savings. This is probably one of the better savings you get across the Boarding Patrol range – essentially, you’ll get a set of Navy Breachers for free, which is as good a deal as a Rogue Trader can get.

Boarding Patrol: Agents of the Imperium – Contents

This Boarding Patrol boasts 35 miniatures – though 4 of them are the smaller ones, like the Servo Skulls and the CATs. Either way, lots of chaff to chuck at your opponent.

Now, this perhaps the most unique Boarding Patrol of them all, as it substitutes for a potential Imperial Guard/ Astra Militarum one. I did wonder why this instead of a Guard one, but a work colleague who plays Guard told me that Imperial Guard are for ground combat in the lore, not for naval warfare. Makes sense, but I suspect that most Guard players who want to do Boarding Actions won’t care for that fact.

In lieu of that, Taller de juegos are offering a Boarding Patrol made purely of Kill Team boxsets – minus the Eversor Assassin. Both Kill Teams are showing (at the moment) as ‘Temporarily Out of Stock Online’ on Taller de juegos’s official site, so this boxset will be your best opportunity to get these miniatures if you’ve got a craving for them.

Boarding Patrol: Agents of the Imperium – Value

Here are the individual values of each kit provided in the box, and how they stack up savings-wise.

GBPDólar estadounidenseCANALLAEURAUD
Eversor Assassin£ 25,00$40.00$50.0032,50 €$63.00
Elucidian Starstriders£ 37,50$60.00$75.0050,00 €$105.00

Valor total£ 137.50$220.00$275.00€182.50$378.00

Again, as mentioned before, the savings gained in this box are excellent, and you’ll feel like you’ve got your money’s worth with the sheer amount of plastic in the box.

This box sets nicely under the 500 point threshold, with a little room to add some wargear in. Now, this box makes up a great Boarding Patrol – but it does beg the question, does this box have much utility outside of Boarding Actions?

With the keywords Agent of the Imperium, these units can be added as auxiliaries in other Imperial armies, like Astra Militarum, Adepta Sororitas or Space Marines. However, being all the units (bar the assassin) were built for Kill Team, they may not do much for you when those armies already have units with similar functions. This is a very specialised box made thematically for Boarding Actions, and I can see this appealing more to Kill Team players who want to get their hands on some rarer units.

Nevertheless, let’s see what the miniatures can do on the battlefield. The Eversor Assassin definitely feels like a left-out-of-field choice, but a fun one to be sure. He has quite a few abilities that will make him the bane of any opposing player, especially in close quarters. Three out of four of his weapon choices can re-roll wound rolls, and he has 4+ invulnerable save. He can shoot at enemies that fall back, increase his charge roll to 3D6 and make an additional attack each time a model in an enemy unit is destroyed. After he’s done doing backflips around Space Hulk walls and ploughing into your foe, he can take a bow and basically explode if killed – and on a 4+, each unit within 6″ suffers D3 mortal wounds. Oh, and he can be deployed anywhere on the battlefield (9″ away from enemy models) in any of your movement phases. Play your cards right and your opponent shall know pain.

The Elucidian Starstriders have a straightforward loadout for something that originated from Kill Team – they don’t seem to be highly customisable, which saves time on choosing the best options to optimise the unit. 4 of the unit appear to be unique individual models – the Cartographica Rogue Trader, Death Cult Executioner, Lectro-Maester and the Rejvenat Adept. The other 6 are Voidsmen-At-Arms and an actual dog called Canid, who are your shooting force who gain an additional hit on unmodified sixes to whoever they’re targeting within 12″. They all gain 5+ invulnerable save when with the Cartographica (the lady with the feathered hat and cane), the ability to regain lost wounds on a 5+ with the Rejuvenate Adept and a great weapon in Dartmask – whose unmodified wound rolls of 2+ are always successful. The way I see it, this Rogue Trader unit is good to have as back-up for your main infantry force, chipping away at the enemy from sides.

The Imperial Navy Breachers make up the bulk of the box, and with good reason – these are your main infantry. The Starstriders and Assassin would do well as support for these guys, who are going to be either up close with the enemy or claiming objectives. Again, as originating from Kill Team, the Breachers are highly customisable with their loadout and I would recommend going through their options on their datasheet before settling on how you want to play them. You can stack up some abilities, like Smokescreen y Void Armour, which make them harder to hit. They have a variety of weapon choices that give them different bonuses – giving your opponent’s models lots of ways to die.

My personal conclusion on this Boarding Patrol list is that, it’s actually pretty solid. The Breachers are your rank and file soldiers who will spam the corridors and objectives, the Starstriders provide supporting fire and the Assassin causes havoc all over the board in the confusion. If you’re looking for an unconventional army you might not play in bigger scale 40k games, then this may be the one for you.

Although a bizarre Boarding Patrol option, I imagine it will be highly sought after, due to the big savings made on Kill Team kits that aren’t, often at times, easy to find. The Emperor Protects, sure, but he can’t guarantee you one on faith alone. So if you don’t want to miss out, head down to your local GW/FLGS store this Saturday or online retailer at 10am for your chance to pre-order one.

And that’s it now for Boarding Patrols – we’ll have to see what wonders 10E will bring before us in the form of army boxes and Combat Patrols. Until then, have a smashing time with Boarding Actions and keep your ears to the ground for further Patrol boxes in the future.
