Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Introduction

There is a bit of an elephant in the room with this delivery. See, a few weeks ago, Age of Sigmar Fourth Edition dropped in spectacular fashion with the arrival of the Skaventide box.

For those of you who are new to Warhammer (we’re never sure how many newbies buy these kinds of magazines, even though they are designed for them!), this new edition release signals a complete change in the rules for the Warhammer Age of Sigmar game. Age of Sigmar has been quite extensively re-written, with a lot of core rules changes and statistics changes to your units.

As such, all the rules and tutorials in the back of these magazines are now, technically, out-of-date. As they are for Age of Sigmar Third Edition, and are no-longer current, so will no longer receive errata, nor will they likely be the version of the game people will want to play.

This is just something to bear in mind going forward. Once Warhammer 40,000 Combat Patrol is out of the way, we’d expect to see Age of Sigmar Fourth Edition to swing back round into the partworks spotlight. But this is well into the future – and right now, we have a pile of magazines to get through!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Contents

This month is a good ‘un. With the much-anticipated, brand-new Orruk Ardboyz in one issue and the incredible Bastian Carthalos in another, you won’t want to miss any of these issues.

The Magazines

Perhaps fittingly so, Número 71 kicks things off this month with a look at the villains of the new edition: the Skaven. But they aren’t alone: lore fans amongst you will find more information on Ossiarch Bonereapers, as well as the Fyreslayers and the Idoneth Deepkin’s grudges. There’s a decent-sized painting guide in here too, so you can get cracking with your new paints as well.

Número 72, which nets buyers the fabulous Bastian Carthalos miniature, contains some info on Bastian’s (arguable) antithesis: Archaon the Everchosen. Once Archaon’s taken a couple of pages, however, the rest of the magazine is dedicated to getting Bastian built, painted, and making waves on the tabletop.

Número 73, with the awesome new Ardboyz, looks at the Cities of Sigmar before having a deep-dive into the new models, with a complete build and painting guide, as well as a tutorial for using their rules with the last edition of Age of Sigmar. This magazine also has this month’s fold-out, which is also dedicated to the last edition’s rules.

Last but not least, Número 74, with the Guardian Idol terrain feature, takes readers on a tour of the Ironjawz, Gitz, and the Chaos Gods, before getting your new terrain built and painted. After that, it’s more rules tutorials for your new models.

Miniaturas

Número 72 kicks things off in incredible style with the phenomenal Bastian Carthalos miniature.

This towering, imposing Stormcast Eternal figure makes just as potent a centrepiece to your collection. Note that you’ll be instructed to assemble him in three sub-assemblies, leaving him off his base and his cloak off his shoulders. Be sure to do this: I’ve done so in the image above and re-attached the parts with blu-tac for the sake of this photo.

Perhaps even more eagerly-anticipated than Bastian Carthalos are Número 73‘s brand-new Orruk Ardboyz.

The magazine will direct you to build your Ardboyz with spears, but you don’t have to. Every weapon hand fits on every right arm, so you can equip your Ardboyz with spears or swords as you see fit. They’re super easy to assemble as well, and won’t take you all that long.

Don’t they also just look really damn cool?

Finalmente, Número 74 rounds things off with the last Guardian Idol.

We’ve had this chap already, so putting him together should be a breeze for you. An imposing scenery piece, it’ll look great on your battlefields.

Pinturas y Herramientas

Número 71 comes with two new paints!

Coelia Greenshade is a great colour to add a little dark green to your textures, and Knight-Questor Flesh is a fabulous highlight colour that works extremely well with Bloodreaver Flesh and Catachan Flesh.

There are some pretty beefy savings available this month across the entire delivery – and note that, as of the date of publication of this article, there are still copies of these magazines left on Forbidden Planet, so if you’re after a particular issue, be sure to have a look using the links above.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Delivery 19: Issues 71-74 Review – Final Thoughts

The GoodThe Bad
Fantastic savings
Great miniatures
Releases no-longer up-to-date with current rules.

Delivery 19 is a high-flyer, without doubt. Gorgeous miniatures and significant savings across the board, it’s simply a shame that the rules sections in these magazines are no longer up to date.

We’re getting closer and closer to the end of the collection, so be sure to check out Forbidden Planet for any issues you’re missing!
