Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21: Issues 79-82 Review – Introduction

Today’s the day!

…Sort of.

A couple of months ago, this would be our final Warhammer 40,000 Imperium delivery and we’d be getting all gushy and reflective about the series, talking about the highs and lows and whatever else. This delivery would contain half as much content, too: two magazines and one (impressive miniature). Instead, we’ve got four magazines and three figures: Roboute Guilliman himself is joined by two Adepta Sororitas PAragon Warsuits!

This is going to be a good ‘un.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21: Issues 79-82 Review – Contents

Here’s everything up for grabs with Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21.

We’ll have a closer look at this all now, starting with a spoiler-free, whistle-stop tour of the magazines.

The Magazines

Delivery 21’s selection of magazines kicks things off to a strong start with this one, its cover resplendent with a magnificent picture of the Avenging Son on its cover.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Issue 79

There’s plenty more about him inside too – but he doesn’t dominate. There are several sides dedicated to Rogue Trader lore, as well as a Veteran battleplan for you to get stuck into.

Guilliman’s back again in Issue 80, and this time it really is all about him.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Issue 80

Containing a monster painting guide for the Ultramarines Primarch, as well as his datasheet, a tutorial using his powers on the battlefield, and another Veteran mission, you’re going to get your mileage out of this miniature, that’s for sure.

Issue 81 furnishes you with your first of 3 Adepta Sororitas Paragon Warsuits – and plunges us into the additional 10 issues we’re getting.

Included within its pages are a lengthy paint guide for your new Warsuits in it, as well as some new rules for using these units.

Also included in Issue 81 is a fold-out guide to playing campaign missions. This’ll be really useful for those of you who can’t wait to get stuck in battling with your miniatures.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Issue 81 Pull Out

Last but not least, we arrive at Issue 82.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Issue 82

Issue 82 has a good chunk of lore at the start, covering a wide array of Warhammer 40,000 topics. There’s also yet another painting guide for this particular Paragon Warsuit, as well as a campaign mission on its final few pages.

miniature

Roboute Guilliman is, perhaps, one of the most impressive miniatures currently available in the Warhammer 40,000 catalogue.

Sure, there are bigger, more menacing, more blood-and-gore drenched miniatures packing more guns, fangs, claws, and armour – but, like him and his Ultramarines or not, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another miniature that says “this is Warhammer 40,000” quite as well as Guilliman.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Guilliman

Dripping – nay, drenched – in details, Roboute Guilliman is the painting prize those people who have used Imperium as their induction to the hobby have been training for. From the flaming Sword of the Emperor to the tiny “XIII” on his belt for the 13th Legion, Guilliman’s entire deal, both as a figure and a character in the Warhammer 40,000 mythos, is command. Whether he’s on your shelf as a collectible or taking his huge sword and other weapons to your foes on the tabletop, he is certain to command the space.

His sculpted base provides him with a eagle’s head-shaped Tactical Rock as well as a mountain of other Tactical Debris to elevate him up and above everything else on the field. The addition of other details – such as the Chaos Space Marine corpse, the braziers and the inevitable scattering of skulls – further serves to ensure thgere are no doubts as to who this guy is and what he’s all about.

What’s more, he’s not actually all that difficult to assemble. Whilst there are a few fiddly little pieces on his backpack and his head requires sandwiching between two halves of a laurel wreath, the majority of Guilliman’s sculpt is made of large, easy-to-handle pieces. I can’t wait to start painting him. What an incredible mini.

…And the Paragon Warsuits rock, too!

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21 Paragon Warsuits

Whilst Guilliman is a relative breeze to assemble, the Warsuits are far more fiddly. There are a huge number of parts for these guys, including halves of feet, tiny pouches, and plenty of cables and tubes that need to be connected up. Happily, everything lines up with a great deal of ease, so ensure you dry-fit everything before you start sticking things together.

But they’re smashing, and I’ve been really looking forward to getting my hands on these. There are a few build variants across these models, such as heads and weapons, but not too much. All the same, they’re good-looking, impressive figures that will be a lot of fun to paint.

The Paragon Warsuits are the first part of the 10 extra Imperium issues that were released a few months ago. We’re due to get another one of these, an Ad Mech hero, another Inquisitor, a Hexmark Destroyer, Illuminator Szeras and a frikkin’ Dreadnought over the next two months, so a selection of high-quality, high-value miniatures. Exciting times!

Also, note that these aren’t Premium items, they’re part of the standard subscription.

Warhammer 40,000 Imperium Delivery 21: Issues 79-82 Review – Final Thoughts

Three magnificent miniatures
Really excellent savings
Paragon Warsuits are a bit fiddly to assemble
We’re now into the final ten issues of Imperium, which sucks :(

Delivery 21 is something really special. Containing one of the best models currently available for the Space Marines range – and possibly the Warhammer 40,000 catalogue as a whole – as well as two excellent additions in the form of the Adepta Sororitas Paragon Warsuits, Issues 79-82 will leave a lot of people very, very happy.

Well, a few months ago that would’ve been that. We’d be thanking you for joining us on this two-year journey through Warhammer 40,000: Imperium. Instead, thanks to the overwhelming success of the collection, we’ve got another 8 issues to get through. Hooray!

Still, I’m sure I won’t be the only person saddened that we’ve now only got a handful of deliveries left to go – and it looks as if it’s shaping up to see itself off on a particularly impressive high. Guilliman was always going to be a tough act to follow, but between the Paragon Warsuits and everything else on over over the next couple of months it looks as if it may well do so.
